FLASH: Froxel based Light-field Acceleration System for High-efficiency GPU Rendering

Abstract:

This work demonstrates that the semantically-valuable Froxel representation for light fields can be efficiently implemented on modern GPUs. We present a performant GPU hash table implementation, which seamlessly handles the sparse 3D format of the Froxel representation. Furthermore, we demonstrate a real-time capable view synthesis on an integrated graphics card of a modern Laptop CPU. The developed pipeline natively supports sequences from the MPEG Immersive Video (MIV) Content database and compares favorably against MIV-based approaches.
